As a young woman she worked at the court of Wilhelm II, where she developed a fatal and hopeless obsessive love for the Kaiser. She was interned in 1920 as a schizophrenic and immediately began to paint, continuing until her death. Aloïse’s value as an outsider artist was discovered by Dubuffet as early as the 1940s. Mesmeric, voluptuous, violent, elegant art which is still appreciated today, even beyond the Art Brut label.
