Bonnell and Kelly converge in the collective energy of women’s labour through translations, interpretations, and reiterations of the rich collection of samplers and lace designs preserved in the archive of the Palazzo Mocenigo Museum and in the collection of the Lace Museum in Burano. By interacting with the traditions of the lace makers of Burano, Mandy Bonnell and Déirdre Kelly have found a way to tell intertwined stories and evoke journeys, overlaying new techniques onto ancient crafts with the aim of giving lasting voice to this cultural memory.
