FADJAR SIDIK

1930, Surabaya, Indonesia
2004, Yogyakarta, Indonesia

An important and central figure in the development of Indonesian abstract painting, Fadjar Sidik offered up a new aesthetic approach in the era of urbanization and industrialisation. He is best known for his compositions which evoke the vibrant pulse and movement of nature in transformation. He achieved this thanks to the influence of elements of traditional art forms in his abstract compositions, drawing deep connections between universal geometric shapes and his Indonesian identity.
