The first educator and health worker of his indigenous Yanomami community, Joseca Mokahesi Yanomami illustrates bilingual publications (Yanomami/Portuguese) for educational and health programs, depicting mythical entities, forest landscapes, and scenes of Yanomami daily life. The son of a famous shaman, Mokahesi depicts the xapiri auxiliary spirits in human or animal forms, based on visions passed down in shamanic song. Through his drawings he offers a unique and often hidden perspective of Yanomami culture, attempting to share the vision of the world that he expresses.
