B. PRABHA

1933, Maharashtra, India
2001, Nagpur, India

The slender feminine figures painted by B. Prabha find a place – pushed further, even – an aesthetical and thematic current that is undoubtedly successful and immediately recognizable. Behind the beautiful creations, though, is agonizing empathy for the conditions of women that were so common, to the point of inevitability, in the India of several decades ago. The artist shares sincerely the struggle, the plight, and the dignity of her fellow citizens.
