An emblematic figure of the Nouvelle Vague, Jean-Pierre Léaud, thanks to his role in François Truffaut’s The 400 Blows (1959), found himself, at just fourteen, becoming one of the most sought-after actors in auteur cinema. He would portray the character Antoine Doinel with Truffaut on five occasions, becoming something of a surrogate for the director. The documentary Le cinéma de Jean-Pierre Léaud, directed by Cyril Leuthy, traces the extraordinary career of this actor, who has performed for major auteurs such as Godard, Bertolucci, Cocteau, Pasolini, Varda, Kaurismäki, Ming-liang, Eustache, Ruiz, and many others.
