A secure situation, away from the chaos and unpredictability of daily life, shielded from everything and everyone: the protagonist is a long-term patient who finds in the hospital routine a personal comfort zone, where resignation and apathy become freedom. The arrival of a new roommate ultimately disrupts the delicate balance of the patient, confronting him with reality once more. She, in fact, does not want to stay in the hospital; she wants to live or die on her own terms. The protagonist thus becomes afflicted with a thirst for life, infected by the woman’s desperate strength…

“This is a story that has been only mine for a long time and that, I hope, will become everyone’s”: with these words, Valerio Mastandrea introduces his second directorial effort after Ride (2018), which won the Nastro d’Argento for Best Debut Film. An actor with four David di Donatello awards for his performances, as well as a director and producer, Mastandrea demonstrates creative and genre consistency.

Telling a love story like the ones that suddenly explode at a school party, in the afternoon, at a stranger’s house, where you fall in love for no real reason and you realize that life from that day on will never be the same again. We wanted to start from here because telling a love story is perhaps more difficult than living one
