The eighteenth-century church on the island of San Servolo in Venice is home to an organ of inestimable value, an instrument from 1745 built by organ builder Pietro Nachini (Petar Nakić) that stands out for its sound transparency, phonic balance and singability. The organ was restored by San Servolo srl, the in-house company of the Metropolitan City of Venice, and several concerts using this instrument have already been held in the church in the past. Now that the pandemic has passed, with renewed enthusiasm San Servolo srl, in agreement with the Metropolitan City of Venice, has proposed a review of organ music from 2022, consisting of four appointments dedicated to the knowledge and study of this usually little-known instrument. Thus was born Registri. Arti dei suoni per l’organo di San Servolo, a project curated by Michele Del Prete. The third proposal stems from the residency of Tjark Pinne (organ), the titular organist of one of Hamburg’s most important churches, Sankt Nikolai, and an expert in both the ancient repertoire (especially from northern Germany) and contemporary music. Pinne will develop a programme centred on the ancient repertoire and a dialogue with electronics played by Michele Del Prete, who in his years as artistic director of Registri has developed a site-specific musical practice for the Nachini organ in San Servolo that he makes available to the organists in residence.
