Magical universe

Eva Jospin, art between artifice and nature
by Irene Machetti

Exhibition Selva at Museo Fortuny has been extended until January 13. The collection of art by Eva Jospin is a beautiful experience that combines tradition and innovation, craft and poetry.

The French artist turned the Museum’s portico into an enchanted universe where nature and architecture intertwine in shapes and matter. Selva, or forest, is a very apt title for an immersion into a world of wild vegetation created with surprising materials such as cardboard, fibre, precious metals, and embroidery. On the ground floor, Jospin built an architectural landscape that starts off as an orderly garden and later grows into a wild forest. Further on, The Gallery evokes the forest using a trompe-l’oeil that plays with the audience’s perception. Nymphées follows, an homage to the Venetian tradition of lace and embroidery. The eponymous Forêt is the enchanted forest that will envelop us in a mysterious, spellbinding atmosphere. In all, a sensorial journey to reflect on the relationship between man and nature, real and imaginary.
