The classics of American and Italian repertoire performed by the dark, enthralling voice of Dominican singer Josmil Neris for a new appointment at Fondaco dei Tedeschi on December 8, produced in cooperation with Veneto Jazz. Josmil Neris was born in a musical family. Her uncle, a pastor and guitarist, encouraged her to sing, and soon she would define her expressive vocal style, influenced by black music, jazz, soul, blues, and R’n’B. Her 2020 project, Quiero el sur, is a return to basics, the things we identify with and that never leave us. Music is a vehicle to get (back) to faraway lands, in a journey constellated with the most beautiful songs of Spanish and Latin American tradition, arranged in jazz key. Josmil Neris is also a chorister in Cheryl Porter’s Hallelujah Gospel Singers. Porter and Neris sang with Zucchero in Venice in 2018 and with Marco Mengoni in 2019. Classic standards and Christmas music don fresh clothing thanks to interesting arrangements and the ability of the instrumentalists who accompany Josmil Neris: pianist Marco Ponchiroli, bassist Alvise Seggi, drummer Marco Carlesso.
