The ‘fraud of the century’, as has been called by French media, turned into a stylish TV series authored by Xavier Giannoli and Frédéric Planchon – the latter known especially in the world of commercial video. The series is an adaptation of the 2018 book by the same name by journalist Fabrice Arfi about a tax fraud on carbon credits worth two billion euro. The protagonist of the series is the investigator entrusted by the French government to work on these tax fraud cases against the Belleville criminal association.
Xavier Giannoli is a French director, screenwriter, and producer. He rose to fame for his deep, heartfelt film work on difficult themes. Giannoli studied cinema and debuted in 1993 with Le condamné. His second short movie, L’interview of 1998, starred Mathieu Amalric and won awards at Cannes, at the Césars, and at Turin. The filmmaker’s first feature-length film is Les Corps impatients of 2006, starring Gérard Depardieu and Cécile de France. The film was presented in the main competition at Cannes and was nominated for seven Césars. Superstar of 2012 is his first comedy film and his first participation at the Venice Film Festival. In 2015, he was back in Venice with Marguerite, and in 2021, with Illusions perdues.
