For the new edition of Grand Tour, the project aiming to foster exchange between international and Italian museums and cultural institutions, Palazzo Grassi hosts Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW) in Berlin, a cultural hub with a multidisciplinary programme that has been developing practices and activities focusing on pluriculturalism, postcolonial discourses and decolonial practices since 1989. The new director Bonaventure Soh Bejeng Ndikung, together with a new team, is currently readjusting and re-imagining the meaning of a house for the cultures of the world in regard to various communities in Berlin as well as to an international audience.
At Punta della Dogana, HKW organises a visit and exploration of the exhibition Icônes, through a perspective combining the concepts of Quilombismo, multisensory mediation and Corpoliteracy, to (un)learn with and through the body. As the title ‘An Embassy of Joy’ implies, participants will also be invited to reflect on joy as a political act essential for survival in oppressive situations and settings.
