Jack Terry is a film sound technician for admittedly B-grade productions and is looking for special sound effects. While on the banks of a stream in a park, his highly sensitive microphone picks up the sound of a car skidding and plunging into the water. He manages to save the girl trapped in the wreckage, but not the driver who, he discovers, is the state governor and presidential candidate. Listening to the recording again, Jack discovers that, along with the tyre blowout, the apparent cause of the accident, there is clearly a gunshot. This is evidently a political crime on which, however, a heavy veil of silence immediately descends.
Restoration by The Criterion Collection, introduced by Sara d’Ascenzo.
