15-year-old Holly, motherless, moves with her father from Texas to a small town in South Dakota. The first young man to approach her is Kit, a no-nonsense, currently garbage collector. Dismissed from the municipality due to a reduction in the number of paintings, the boy thinks he has fulfilled the wishes of his girlfriend’s father, who has explicitly discarded him as a match for his daughter. Kit and Holly, conversely, become inseparable and lovers.
