For its first participation in the Biennale Arte, Benin presents a collective project that touches on themes such as pre-colonial culture, the slave trade, the figure of the Amazon, spirituality and the Voodoo religion, and then delves into Gèlèdé thought, a feminist tradition rooted in maternal wisdom that continues to deeply influence the life of Beninese communities. The intention is to suggest that contemporary society can draw inspiration from ancient traditions, while at the same time strengthening its ties with the rich indigenous cultural heritage.
