Matthew Attard (Malta, 1987) draws inspiration from a series of historical naval graffiti found on the facades of various Maltese votive sites, etched into stone by anonymous sailors or simple passersby as signs of faith and hope. These drawings resound somehow even today, in the age of Internet, advanced computer technology, and artificial intelligence, inviting us to reflection on the relationship between humanity and technology. The assonance between “I” and “eye” suggested by the title also alludes to both the objective and subjective nature of Attard’s artistic approach.
