Every forest is liminal, even one that grows in the center of a city. Like a lens that highlights the resilience of nature, Robert Zhao Renhui’s installation offers a captivating exploration of secondary forests, regenerated from land that was deforested to make way for urban development or intensive cultivation. Often invaded by plant and animal species introduced to Singapore in the 19th century, these boundaries between primary forest and urbanized areas provide insights to reflect upon human and non-human coexistence.
