Three artists from different generations and artistic disciplines offer a glimpse into Azerbaijan’s cultural and artistic effervescence. In Pink Planet by Vusala Agharaziyeva (1990, Baku), the many travels that have marked the artist’s biography become an ideal vehicle for conveying a common sense of feeling “foreigners everywhere.” The installation I Am Here by Rashad Alakbarov (1990, Baku) leads into a disorienting labyrinth that offers an exit only if the visitor is willing to change perspective. The series Girls Prefer Oilmen by Irina Eldarova, born in Moscow in 1955 and living in Azerbaijan, tells an imaginary love story between a Caspian Sea oil field worker and Marilyn Monroe.
