BERLINDE DE BRUYCKERE

The exhibition by Belgian artist Berlinde De Bruyckere consists of three new groups of works that converse with the monumental architecture of St. George’s Church: a series of sculptures of archangels in the nave and side aisles, a large-scale installation in the Sacristy, and several display cases containing sculptural works along the Monastery Gallery. City of Refuge III, titled after the song of the same name by Nick Cave, is the third of a series of the artist’s exhibitions where art is seen as a place of shelter. Here this theme is emphasized by the high spirituality of the location.
