Only at her second feature, Vermiglio, Maura Delpero already made it into the Main Competition at the 2024 Venice Film Festival. The managing director of the Südtirol Film Commission for the locality the film was produced in, Birgit Oberkofler, is proud of the work they do to support local filmmaking.

After her first movie, Maternal, secured her some appreciation both in Italy and abroad, director Maura Delpero moved back home, in her native region, and met with local professionals to plan the making of her next film. Set between 1944 and 1945, Vermiglio follows three sisters and has been filmed in the hilly regions of Trentino and Alto Adige, in the very north of Italy, where Nazi troops stayed the longest before finally surrendering at the end of World War II.
One of the most suggestive location used in filming is a Romanesque building dating back to the 1200s. Called Klösterle, or little cloister in the local German parlance, it was once used by pilgrims travelling to Rome, and it truly is a precious enchanted gem.
