Among the most popular film events in the lagoon city, Swiss Cinema in Venice reaches the milestone of 14 editions with an intense program, 7 films along 4 days, discovering one of the most lively and interesting cinematographies of the European continent. Among the event’s partners is the prestigious Swiss festival “Solothurn Days,” which will be represented in Venice by artistic director Niccolò Castelli. The festival opens on Tuesday, March 11 at 6 p.m. with the premiere of Reinas (Queens), signed by Peruvian-born director Klaudia Reynicke. Presented in collaboration with Exit Media distribution and soon to be released in Italian theaters, the film has been chosen by Switzerland as an Oscar nominee and has enjoyed considerable success at international festivals such as the Sundance Film Festival, the Berlin International Film Festival and the Locarno Film Festival.
It continues on Wednesday, March 12, at 6 p.m. with The Disappearance of Bruno Breguet, signed by Ticino-based director Olmo Cerri, who will be in Venice to present the forgotten and emblematic story of a young Swiss student who mysteriously disappeared against the backdrop of the protest demonstrations of the 1970s. Also on March 12, at 9 p.m., the premiere of Les Courageux, presented by cinematographer Andi Widmer. A not-to-be-missed date on Thursday, March 13, at 6 p.m., with director Susanna Fanzun presenting her film I Giacometti: through the enchanting scenery of Bregaglia, fictional inserts and extraordinary archival materials, we will learn about a dynasty of revolutionary artists with close ties to the city of Venice (Bruno Giacometti designed the Swiss pavilion at the Giardini). Next, at 9 p.m., Riverboom, by Claude Baechtold (also present in Venice): a wild, ironic and crazy on the road, set in the most remote regions of Afghanistan in the early 2000s. Closing this “Spring Edition,” on Friday, March 14, at 6 p.m., is Sauvages by Claude Barras, a wonderful adventure for adults and children with a strong ecological message, in which three small but very brave heroes fight to defend the forests of Borneo and its inhabitants from exploitation by multinational corporations. Closing event, also on the 14th at 9 p.m., is the premiere of Quir signed by Nicola Bellucci. Admission to the screenings is free, subject to availability. All films are presented in the original version, with Italian subtitles.
