The 15th edition of the International Kids Carnival of the Venice Biennale is a cornerstone of the city’s celebrations, unfolding this year with various proposals and novelties for children and families, taking place at different venues such as Ca’ Giustinian, Teatro Piccolo Arsenale, and Teatro del Parco in Mestre.
A highlight of this edition is the immersive installation The Snow Queen, an original project for children that combines narrative theater and publishing. It is inspired by H. C. Andersen’s fairy tale The Snow Queen, based on a tactile book for interactive play, enriched with virtual audio. The installation will be freely accessible on Saturdays, February 3 and 10, and Sundays, February 4 and 11, starting at 3 PM, with a workshop at 4.30 PM (San Marco, Calle del Ridotto).
Another novelty of the Kids Carnival of the Biennale is the screening on Friday, February 2 (at 4 PM) at Teatro Piccolo Arsenale (Campo della Tana, 2161) of The Thief Lord. This adventure film is based on the eponymous famous novel for children by German writer Cornelia Funke, who will be in Venice with two workshops at Ca’ Giustinian (on Saturday, February 3, and Sunday, February 4), thanks to the support of the German Center for Venetian Studies.
From February 3 to 11, the usual creative and artistic workshops for schools and families will be organized at Ca’ Giustinian. These will include musical, scientific, dance, and makeup workshops. Another novelty will be the theater performances by authors Gigio Brunello and Giulio Molnár from February 5 to 8 (at 7 PM) always at Teatro Piccolo Arsenale in Campo della Tana.
In Mestre, at Teatro del Parco Bissuola and the Arcobaleno ice rink, the Canadian company Le Patin Libre offers a dense program of shows, workshops, free skating, special family events, and ice-dancing parties with a DJ from February 1 to 11.
All activities are free but require mandatory reservation.
