One of the most influential figures in contemporary ballet, Carlos Acosta comes to Venice for the first time with his company Acosta Danza. The Cuban choreographer presents an evening that mirrors his practice, at the intersection of classical, contemporary, urban, Afro and Latin dance. Borrowing the title Ajiaco from a succulent traditional Cuban dish, whose peculiarity is precisely its rich mix of ingredients and spices, Acosta brings together the choreographies of four artists who differ in generation and style: Micaela Taylor, founder and artistic director of the TL Collective, one of the most up-and-coming emerging companies in Los Angeles, presenting Performance; Belgian-Moroccan choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, now leading the prestigious Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève with Faun; Alexis Fernández, trained at the Cuban school of the legendary Alicia Alonso and now director and co-founder with Caterina Varela of the Galician company La Macana with De Punto a cabo; and the choreographer of Venezuelan origin Javier de Frutos, one of the most eminent artists on the London scene, already a guest of Ismael Ivo for Biennale Danza 2007 with his 98 Días.
