Winner of the Sydney International Piano Competition 2021 and winner of second prize and the Krystian Zimerman special prize at the Fryderyk Chopin International Piano Competition in Warsaw 2021. Musical exposure and Central European culture: Alexander Gadjiev owes the former to his family, with his mother and father both teachers and musicians, and the latter to Gorizia – his home town – a natural crossroads of peoples, cultures and languages. Factors that have both had a decisive influence on his natural ability to absorb, elaborate and revisit different styles and musical languages with his own taste. Following the teachings of his father, a well-known Russian teacher, Alexander first performed with an orchestra at the age of 9 and gave his first solo recital at 10. He graduated at the age of 17 with top marks, distinction and special mention. The repertoire for this appointment includes Franck and Chopin, Scriabin and Beethoven.
