What if dance were simply a way of making the invisible visible, even if only for a moment, before it disappears again? From this question emerges Invisible, the latest choreographic work by Italian artist Andrea Salustri, winner of the national call for new choreographies promoted by the Biennale Danza.
The piece develops as an investigation into the creative potential of inanimate matter. Salustri, born in Rome and based in Berlin, has built his artistic language at the margins of disciplinary boundaries: from street performance, through contact juggling and fire manipulation, to dance and choreography at HZT Berlin. A trajectory that places contamination at its core, intertwining body, objects and visual theatre in performative systems that question matter itself and its capacity to exist.
“Dancing with air and light means dancing with the invisible. It means staying at the edge of what can be perceived, listening to what has no voice, moving with what cannot be held,” the choreographer explains. With Invisible, Salustri turns his attention to what usually escapes perception: light, air, wind, mist – ephemeral elements that traverse space without ever stabilising into a fixed form, yet continuously inhabit it.
A production of La Biennale di Venezia, the work receives its world premiere at the Tese dei Soppalchi in the Arsenale on 21 (h. 9.30 pm) and 22 July (h. 7 pm).
