The meeting entitled “Behavioral City. Connecting Minds, Spaces and Policies” aims to explore and define the concept of Behavioral City© as a result of the integration of government and behavioral urbanism.
The meeting, introduced by the President of the Biennale, Roberto Cicutto, will include a talk by Professor Riccardo Viale (Herbert Simon Society; Bicocca University of Milan and LUISS University of Rome), creator of the Behavioral City© concept, with a commentary by Architect Benedetto Camerana (Camerana & Partners). Lawyer Debora Rossi (head of the Historical Archives of the Venice Biennale) will moderate.
The role of cognitive science in design, architecture and urbanism has developed enormously in the last decade: architecture and behavioral urbanism are recent concepts that express this evolution. Nudging (getting people to perform actions without imposing them, but instead creating the right conditions to influence people) and behavioral insights for city policymaking are attracting the attention of academic communities and policymakers. The design of public services is increasingly based on the choice of behavioral architecture and how to motivate people toward new collective actions.
