Few know that in Bizet’s life, the piano occupied a special role. In addition to the piano skills necessary for any composer and the common practice of transcribing his own and other people’s works, the piano was a constant but deliberately kept under wraps presence. A remarkable pianist, Bizet did not like to perform in public concerts, and was only a private teacher out of necessity: he did not want to cause misunderstandings, the world had to recognise him as a composer! The corpus of original piano compositions, although small in size, denotes a remarkable variety: from the lyricism of Chopin to the virtuosity of Liszt, from the drama of Beethoven to the spirituality of Bach, making it permeable to recurring themes and suggestions in the world of piano and music.
