Rete Cinema in Laguna is a collective made up of local associations, people and businesses working in the cultural sector in Venice – especially in the cinema and audiovisual sector. Born in the summer of 2020 around the common project of bringing cinema back to the public space in Venice, starting from the most decentralized places – which over the years have stoically resisted, and kept the social fabric of the residents alive – organizing the screening of Il terrorista by Gianfranco De Bosio in Campo Junghans on the Giudecca with the extraordinary participation of the director and over two hundred spectators. The organization of this evening was a real cultural and social laboratory, in which dozens of citizens, associations and local businesses spontaneously brought their own contribution so that the event could take place. The result was the starting point for extending the network to anyone who thinks that culture is the fundamental pivot from which to start again, to coordinate and start together to formulate new ideas that relaunch the film sector in the city, in a structured and continuous way, through a common planning, an exchange of ideas and information and a sharing of different skills. From there, collaborations with various local realities from the C.T.R. and Cosmo, from the CZ95-Provvisorio to COMBO up to the long-lasting and increasingly continuous collaboration with Circuito Cinema Venezia Mestre and the presentations in theaters with directors from all over the world: the Oscar candidate for Portugal Catarina Vasconcelos, the Argentine Natalia Garayalde but also the experimental documentarian Giovanni Cioni and the young promise of Italian cinema Matteo Zoppis. And it is precisely within this collaboration with the Venetian cinemas that the idea of BOOMERANG – Authors of the Lagoon for the first time in Venice was born to point the spotlight inwards and dedicate a cycle of screenings to four local authors with four works created inside and outside the lagoon. Four evenings dedicated to four Venetian directors who will meet the public to present works which, after touring the world, will be presented for the first time in Venice. A project born from the idea of supporting Venetian filmmakers and exploring their worlds by putting them in communication with the city public.
Tonight space for the screening of Refuges by Elena Griggio and Shambala by Andrea De Fusco, in the presence of the directors.
