Tim Rutili’s new Califone album, titled Villagers, features renewed contributions from Brian Deck, Michael Krassner, Rachel Blumberg, and Ben Massarella, and showcases an inspired mix of rough and adventurous folk-rock, Jim O’Rouke-esque electronic digressions, Sonic Youth-esque guitar scratches, and country imagery worthy of the best of Wilco. Rutili’s songwriting is poetic and visionary and the songs tell of a reality poised between reflection, feelings and chaos.
