Elizabeth of Wied, the future queen consort of Romania, was born in Wied, Germany, on December 29, 1843. She had a nom de plume, Carmen Sylva, which she used to sign her poetry, dramas, novels, stories, and aphorism collection. The Bucharest Association for Music, Art, and Culture, in partnership with the Romanian Cultural Institute in Venice and the Italo-German Cultural Association, will host a concert to close the international tour Carmen Sylva – 180 on October 14. The programme includes music by Enescu, Gröndahl, Bungert, Bretan, and Stepha˘nescu, following a journey through Romania, Hungary, Austria, France, Germany, and Italy and the composers who set to music the verses of the poet queen. The tour started in Romanian castle of Peles¸, followed by dates in Bucharest and Vienna: the places where Elizabeth lived.
