Unveiling the treasures of San Servolo Island and the myriad possibilities it holds – that’s the essence of the Feast of San Servolo, a vibrant event taking place on Saturday 12, Sunday 13, and Monday 14 of August.

Starting at 6.30 pm each evening, a world of family-friendly entertainment awaits. One remarkable highlight is the captivating show “Around the World in 80 Days,” a unique interpretation of Jules Verne’s iconic novel. Presented by the Emilia Bosis Foundation from Bergamo, this production brings together not only actors but also horses, parrots, and birds of prey. The Teatro Stalla, a distinctive creation in Italy’s theatrical landscape, is a result of the Foundation’s commitment to this dramatic journey, and it now graces Venice. Attendees will also have the opportunity to engage in workshops, led by specialized personnel, offering an immersive experience with trained birds of prey. The festivities continue with pony rides, the enchanting “baptism of the saddle,” and a captivating puppet show curated by solo puppeteer Daniela Castiglione. Her mesmerizing tales of adventure, love, and travel are set to captivate the audience.

As the clock strikes 9.00 pm, live music and the comedic stylings of the renowned duo Carlo & Giorgio take the stage each evening. The schedule includes:

• Saturday, August 12: The SKA-J group, led by the inimitable Furio, presents an electrifying fusion of jazz and pop infused with Afro-Jamaican rhythms.

• Sunday, August 13: AJDE ZORA group, comprised of five musicians and the Serbian singer Milica Polignano, delivers their vibrant Balkan gypsy music.

• Monday, August 14: The best of Carlo & Giorgio, the beloved comic duo, grace the event with their performance, marking their first appearance on San Servolo Island as part of the initiative to illuminate its hidden gems.

It’s noteworthy that all children’s activities, workshops, shows, and concerts are free of charge. Amidst the sprawling park, attendees can indulge in picnics, sip aperitifs at the cafeteria, relish in island-grilled barbecues, or dine at the newly unveiled “Robe da Mati” restaurant, offering a distinct blend of meat and seafood (advance reservations recommended for barbecues and restaurant seating; contact sanservolo@artandfoodgroup.it or call tel: 3314427648).

At San Servolo, a visit to the Museo della Follia is available daily, offering a poignant journey through time when the island served as the city’s asylum. Throughout the three festival evenings, the Museum, the 18th-century church, and the historical pharmacy will open their doors to the public, free of charge. Additionally, guests will have the opportunity to explore Gaby Wagner’s photographic exhibition capturing the essence of Venice and the Niger Pavilion, a special installation in celebration of the 18th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale.
