As part of the 20th Biennale Danza, the final screening in the film series dedicated to Frederick Wiseman, an undisputed master of documentary cinema and one of the most influential voices of independent filmmaking. Awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement by the Venice International Film Festival in 2014, Wiseman has created a rigorous and profoundly human body of work exploring institutions, communities, and creative processes.
In Crazy Horse (2011, 128’), the director enters the famous Parisian cabaret, following rehearsals and performances during the preparation of Désirs, a new production by French choreographer Philippe Decouflé. Moving between backstage, make-up sessions, and costume rehearsals, the film reveals the complex artistic, technical, and administrative work behind a contemporary, refined, and ironic performance built around the aesthetics of nude chic.
