As part of the 20th Biennale Danza, a film series dedicated to Frederick Wiseman, an undisputed master of documentary cinema and one of the most influential voices of independent filmmaking. Awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement by the Venice International Film Festival in 2014, Wiseman has created a rigorous and profoundly human body of work exploring institutions, communities, and creative processes.
In La Danse – Le Ballet de l’Opéra de Paris (2009), the director enters the rehearsal rooms and stages of one of the world’s most prestigious classical ballet companies. Through the preparation and performance of works by Wayne McGregor, Angelin Preljocaj, Mats Ek, Pierre Lacotte, Rudolf Nureyev, Pina Bausch, and Sasha Waltz, the film reveals the complexity of artistic creation, exploring discipline, organisation, and collaboration.
