Although the French mélodie fully obtained its license of nobility under the Third Republic, in particular thanks to the works of Duparc, Chausson or Fauré, it remains a territory in which composers advance with different objectives: to please the general public and achieve commercial success; demonstrate their skills in order to convince the directors of opera houses; seduce high society to get their support; or, again, create a perfect work, a jewel in which that precious stone that is poetry is ideally enhanced by music. Around Massenet, an entire generation navigates between these different destinations and tries to bring them together to produce a single artistic achievement. The mezzo-soprano Marie Gautrot and the pianist Frédéric Rouillon are the protagonists of the concert at Palazzetto Bru Zane.
