The new project by Friulian pianist and composer Glauco Venier arrives at Teatro La Fenice on June 19 for the summer edition of the Venezia Jazz Festival. Mirko Cisilino on trumpet, Alessio Zoratto on double bass, and Marco D’Orlando on drums form the Quartetto Nuovo—an ensemble of young and talented Friulian musicians who share not only artistic vision but also a common geographical origin with Venier. The program features original compositions: a fresh and engaging blend of melodies and rhythms that highlights the individual artistic personalities within the group. Glauco Venier began his career as a classical musician before turning to jazz, and over a forty-year career has shared the stage with artists such as Paolo Fresu, Enrico Rava, Fabrizio Bosso, and many others. After graduating from the Conservatory, he studied in the United States and launched an intense artistic career, collaborating with some of the most important figures in international jazz. He has performed extensively on stages around the world. Together with Norma Winstone, he recorded four albums for the prestigious ECM Records and one with Universal Music Group, earning a Grammy Award nomination. With Winstone, he has performed in venues such as the Musikverein in Vienna, the Barbican Centre, the Olympia in Paris, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, and at major festivals including the London Jazz Festival.
