Goitse (informal Gaelic greeting, a kind of ‘come here’) is one of the most popular bands among connoisseurs of traditional Irish music. Their distinctive sound lies in the quality of their compositions interspersed with centuries-old traditional melodies that make each performance unique. The rhythm section of Colm Phelan on Bodhrán and Conal O’Kane on guitar gives a powerful thrust to the music while Áine McGeeney’s sweet and charismatic voice draws the audience in a way few other artists can. Multi-instrumentalist Alan Reid plays mainly banjo and bouzouki, drawing on a vast knowledge of archival collections of Irish music that enrich the band’s repertoire. Daniel Collins is a champion All-Ireland multi-instrumentalist and is known for his distinctly intricate bass work on the accordion.
