Three days full of screenings, presentations, workshops and discussions, devised and promoted by the national association Re-framing home movies APS, and realised in collaboration with the Venetian archive RI-PRESE memory keepers, with the contribution of the MiC’s General Direction for Cinema and Audiovisual, and the support of the Fondazione di Venezia, Fondazione Iuav, Università Iuav di Venezia and the patronage of the Veneto Film Commission. The Home Movie Days aim to be a meeting point for enthusiasts and specialists in the sector involved in the preservation and valorisation of family films on a national and international level, to present and compare experiences and best practices and to promote a deeper knowledge on the part of the public, audiovisual productions and artists in their relationship with this amateur film heritage. The heart of the initiative, and of the cultural strategy pursued by the Re-framing home movies APS association in all its projects, is the transition from considering these materials as “orphan” materials, as such to be considered “found” (found footage), to consciously and actively sought and recovered materials – safeguarded through archival processes and specific research strategies – to be valorised and made public in various spheres and/or to be creatively reworked bearing in mind the technical, ethical and aesthetic issues that these audiovisual materials raise.
