George Onslow authored no less than thirty-four cello quintets, and was at the time praised for his mastery of harmony and the scholarly features of his music. Unlike most of his contemporaries, he freely acknowledged his indebtedness to German music. Quatuor Dutilleux will perform Onslow’s quintet number 21 in G-, op. 51, and Théodore Gouvy’s number 3 in E-.
