If at the Toniolo Theatre in Mestre on 1 March Fabrizio Bosso on trumpet and Julian Oliver Mazzariello on piano combine their respective talents to pay homage to Pino Daniele with Il cielo è pieno di stelle, it is because they are convinced and capable of recreating even just a smidgen of the artistic and communicative power of a musical giant like Pino. Fabrizio Bosso and Julian Oliver Mazzariello’s tribute was born on the occasion of a review dedicated to the great Italian authors organised by MAXXI in Rome for which the journalist Ernesto Assante, who was in charge of the artistic direction, thought of entrusting Fabrizio with the task of paying tribute to the great Neapolitan singer-songwriter: the decision to realise this tribute with Julian Oliver Mazzariello, with whom the association has now lasted for twenty years, was immediate. ‘Pino Daniele’s music and poetics,’ says Bosso, ‘have influenced generations of musicians, myself included. In his melodies there is never a note out of place and there is not only blues, rock or funky but also a lot of jazz. We have all sung Pino Daniele in our lives’. The two musicians retrace Daniele’s various musical trajectories, attempting to render an unprecedented portrait of the Neapolitan singer-songwriter, focusing above all on the music.
