7 March 2024

The Giorgio Cini Foundation’s Intercultural Institute of Comparative Music Studies (ISSMC) has announced a unique event scheduled for 6 and 7 March that will feature Yair Dalal, the well-known Israeli composer, activist and violinist as its guest. On the first date, at 6 p.m. at the Ca’ Foscari Theatre in Santa Marta, the artist will be the protagonist, together with Giovanni De Zorzi, lecturer in ethnomusicology, thanks to the collaboration with the Department of Philosophy and Cultural Heritage at Ca’ Foscari University, of a talk entitled Music as an Instrument of Peace. In the broad panorama of music and cultural activism, Yair Dalal’s name is well known. He was born in Israel in 1955 into an Iraqi family that emigrated from Baghdad. What makes him world-famous is precisely the special cultural background he derives from his origins. Musician, composer, violinist and activist, his compositions manage to combine Middle Eastern traditions with Jewish and Arab traditions, with an influence also coming from the Balkans and India, creating unique and transcendental compositions that transcend geographical boundaries and manage to unite peoples through the energy of music. On 7 March at 6 p.m., music and culture enthusiasts will have the opportunity to attend his concert entitled Baghdad-Jerusalem. Music and songs from Jewish Babylonian Heritage, which will take place on the picturesque Island of San Giorgio Maggiore.
