Palazzo Grassi – Punta della Dogana, Pinault Collection, presents the great jazz pianist and composer Jason Moran who will perform in the Atrium of Palazzo Grassi. The concert is part of the initiatives that explore the work of Julie Mehretu, protagonist of the “Ensemble” exhibition: Jason Moran will in fact offer the public a solo improvisation, inspired by the abstract works of the Ethiopian-American artist, with whom he has collaborated in the past, creating a strong professional bond and mutual esteem. In 2017, Moran and Mehretu shared a studio located in a deconsecrated church in New York’s Harlem district. In this space, the jazz musician created a musical suite from his research in the field of sound abstraction, which aims to elevate the piano to something more than just a musical instrument. Moran has been invited to contribute to the catalogue published by Marsilio Arte (Venice), offering his unique point of view as a musician in the poetic text “Even dissonance is harmony”, to the podcast dedicated to the project produced by Palazzo Grassi in collaboration with Chora Media, in which the musician lent his voice to narrate the links between Julie Mehretu’s art and music as part of the second episode ‘In Venice, Together’, and finally to perform at Palazzo Grassi, creating a visual and aural link between his work and that of Mehretu.
