On the occasion of Tatiana Trouvé’s exhibition at Palazzo Grassi, choreographer and artist La Ribot presents her performance Juana ficción (2024) in the museum’s atrium, in collaboration with conductor Asier Puga and with original music by Iñaki Estrada.
The work draws inspiration from the story of Joanna of Castile, the queen confined for over forty years on charges of madness. Together with Juan Loriente, La Ribot reflects on her erasure from official history and evokes the mental universe she may have inhabited during her long isolation.
Dance, music, and video converge: early music meets contemporary electronics, light meets darkness, shaping a narrative that resonates across centuries. An excerpt from La Ribot’s 1991 work El Triste que nunca os vido, also dedicated to the queen, deepens this sense of suspended time and memory.
Between fragility and intensity, Juana ficción transforms Palazzo Grassi’s atrium into a stage where Joanna’s destiny reemerges as an echo of an ephemeral present, wavering between brilliance and oblivion.
