KALLE NIO & FERNANDO MELO – TEMPO

For the first time, Finnish illusionist and visual artist Kalle Nio and Brazilian choreographer Fernando Melo collaborate on a work centred on the experience of time in its multiple states: acceleration, deceleration and suspension. Tempo begins with an apparently ordinary event that gradually transforms into a perceptual threshold, revealing the fragility of life through moments of falls, stumbles and narrowly avoided accidents.
Set to music by Samuli Kosminen, the performance weaves together text, movement and stage illusion into a device in which rhythm is altered, gravity dissolves and the laws of physics are temporarily suspended. Dreamlike scenes alternate with more rhythmic structures, while the text by writer Harry Salmenniemi introduces a poetic and dissonant layer.
Between magic and choreography, Tempo creates an immersive experience that invites the audience to slow down their gaze and engage with the present as an unstable condition to be inhabited and fully perceived.
