Giotto is the artist who was the first to give a soul to his works, of which we therefore know a lot, unlike his life, which is shrouded in legend. Now, from a careful excavation work in the archives and chronicles of the time, Alessandro Masi gives birth to a rigorous and well-documented biography, and does so by narrating it as if it were a novel. The book L’artista dell’anima was born. Giotto and his world, a vivid and strong story, where the figures of Cimabue, Dante, Saint Francis, Boccaccio, Petrarca, the popes also emerge. The author declared: «In this book I tell of Giotto, Francesco and Dante as three bearers of a new message, depicted as the vertices of an equilateral triangle which still today remains fundamental in the progress of the human species. Son of a new century, the Florentine painter acted with the other two in that epochal climate which marked the end of the Middle Ages, disclosing the modern era, progenitor of that universal Humanism which was the Italian Renaissance».
The conference will be broadcast on the Library’s YouTube channel, with the possibility of interacting via chat.
