Every second week the world loses a language. At an unprecedented rate, faster than the escalating extinction of many plant and animal species, our linguistic diversity – perhaps the most important means of self-knowledge – is eroding. American multidisciplinary, conceptual artist and photographer Lena Herzog presents Last Whispers, an experiential, immersive project dedicated to language mass extinction. A silent extinction, for silence is the form it eventually takes. Herzog gives voice to what has been silenced via a choral work that is, at once, deeply modern and traditional.
