If the pairing between women and musical composition appears to be an enigma, it is only due to a commonplace, as the rapporteur Fiorella Sassanelli tells us. Today we know that history has lied to us, and by omission: the nineteenth century in fact experienced a remarkable development in female musical creation, so much so that women who have evaded the fate of social conventions are more numerous than it might seem. Not only that: some of them, and thanks to their talent, have successfully bypassed the icon of the femme au foyer and conquered a professional status which, in addition to popularity, has offered them a position of respect in French musical life. And this to an extent not too far from that of my male colleagues.
