Ocean Space, in collaboration with Storefront for Art & Architecture, presents an artist talk featuring Nadia Huggins, Tessa Mars, and curator Yina Jiménez Suriel, alongside a morning of conversations, readings, and listening sessions developed in partnership with Storefront for Art & Architecture.
Swamps and seamounts—geographies shaped by extraction, resistance, and adaptation—form the conceptual ground for this sonic and discursive gathering between Storefront for Art and Architecture and Ocean Space. The event weaves together Swamplands, Storefront’s inquiry into the swamp as a site of fluidity and struggle, and the exhibition otras montañas, las que andan sueltas bajo el agua at Ocean Space, which concludes the fourth edition of TBA21–Academy’s The Current program, curated by Yina Jiménez Suriel. The exhibition focuses on the intersection between mountain-making, the human perceptual system, and emancipatory processes.
Through soundscapes, poetry, and dialogue, the program explores deep time, sedimented histories, and the porous boundaries between art and science. Contributions by Amma Ateria, Imani Jacqueline Brown, Jonathan Bustos, Monique Johnson, Nadia Huggins, Pedro Uc Be, Tessa Mars, and Wingston González unfold alongside a conversation between the curatorial teams of Ocean Space and Storefront. Additional readings by invited guests expand the inquiry, making Venice’s floating city a resonant site to rethink our relationship with shifting landscapes.
