The eighth Musikàmera Season continues on Thursday 2 and Friday 3 May at 8 p.m. in the Sale Apollinee of the Teatro La Fenice in Venice with a double recital by a leading soloist of the contemporary music scene, violinist Ning Feng, internationally recognised as an artist of great lyricism, innate musicality and surprising virtuosity. Feng will perform a programme of high technical difficulty, which opens under the sign of Johann Sebastian Bach, with Sonata No. 2 and Partita No. 2, and concludes with the famous Chaconne, one of the most universally exalted pages of instrumental music, full of the most daring figurations of violin virtuosity. The programme then continues with the performance of eleven of Niccolò Paganini’s twenty-four Capricci, compositions that, in addition to their unquestionable didactic value, constitute an example of the high school of violin playing and encapsulate a musical and aesthetic message of considerable importance. These are pages in which all of Paganini’s virtuosity is sprinkled to the brim, with recourse to the most extraordinary gimmicks or effects, aimed at widening the expressive range, both timbral and rhythmic, of the violin to the utmost, thus touching the summit of the art of this instrument in 19th-century Europe. Today, Feng is an artist appreciated all over the world, and music critics emphasise his great expressive lyricism, innate musicality and fascinating virtuosity, capable of producing a very wide range of colours.
