Rather than a performance to be observed from a distance, Dance People unfolds as a space to be shared and inhabited. Lebanese choreographer Omar Rajeh, based in Lyon, places the communal dimension of dance at the centre of his practice, treating it not only as an artistic form but as a collective and political gesture capable of questioning how bodies occupy space and relate to one another.
In a present shaped by intelligent algorithms and artificial intelligence, the work engages with some of the most pressing questions of our time: the quality of encounters, the forms of living together, and the place of democracy, culture and identity. Rajeh reimagines the theatre as a shared territory in which the spectator does not remain at the margins, but becomes part of the scenic construction, free to move and to reshape the performance alongside the dancers.
What emerges is a participatory work that affirms the connective force of dance while sustaining a critical reflection on structures of power and the forms of supremacy that continue to shape contemporary society.
