Registri is an exhibition of sound experimentation that blends echoes of the ancient organ repertoire and contemporary practices in four site-specific concerts for the Nachini organ (1745) in the church of San Servolo. The concerts are the result of artistic residencies taking place in November 2024 in San Servolo. During their stay in Venice, the musicians have the opportunity to explore the characteristics of the organ’s registers, the acoustic conditions of the church and the possibilities of electronics specially designed for such a rich sound environment. In this way, the search for new sonorities is conducted in the form of a contemporary dialogue with an 18th century Venetian instrument. The last evening follows the threads of the dialogue of early music and contemporary music thanks to Rosemarie Tougas (organ), a Canadian musician who, after her studies in Montréal, is further specialising in organ in Lübeck. As in the case of the third concert, a mixed programme is planned, alternating early music, which Tougas as a specialist in the French repertoire often performs on Renaissance and Baroque instruments, with music for organ and electronics. After each concert in the Registri series, it will be possible to get to know the organ in San Servolo up close, thanks to short guided tours of the instrument conducted in small groups.
